Yurrebilla is an iconic ultra in South Australia, and one I had wanted to do for a long time. I volunteered at an aid station previously, deliberately going to an aid station well in to the event, 37km in, so that I could pick up tips about running ultras. I learned absolutely nothing! Some people were in tiny shorts and singlet, while others were in long sleeves and long pants. Some people had perfect makeup and fresh faces, while others looked close to collapse. They all ate differently, drank differently, and on it went. I had no clearer picture of what I needed to be able to run an ultra other than it would be epic. Life got in the way, but finally in 2019 I got to run it.
Yurrebilla ultra marathon starts at Belair Railway Station and ends at Foxfield Oval. It winds its way through: Belair National Park Brownhill Creek Recreation Park Waite Conservation Reserve Cleland Conservation Park Horsnell Gully Conservation Park Norton Summit Morialta Conservation Park Black Hill Conservation Park. About 2:27 you'll see some true trail community spirit. About 2:41 you'll see just one of many reasons we love and need volunteers.
Here is my video recap.
I hope you enjoy,
Beck
